Frank Williams Spectacle 23 sept 11Auditions for the fifth edition of A Beacon in the Night will be held on Sunday, February 25th in Moncton.

A Beacon in the Night is a mental health campaign offering a comprehensive approach to recovery. It is also an awareness campaign intended to demystify mental health problems among the general population. This year, the event will take place from May 10 to 12, 2018 in Moncton.

The organizers are looking for musicians, singers and dancers to show their talent on stage and to increase awareness about mental health issues. This is an important cause.

Dr. Patrick Marcotte is a psychiatrist at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre. He is the person behind the event.

“Some of the performers have faced mental health problems themselves. Others participate because they want to support the cause. We have had great success with past editions of A Beacon in the Night. The comments from the participants and the public are always very positive. For the artists, it is very beneficial to perform in front of the public and to have the opportunity to share their talents and their passion. Even in 2018, there are still so many myths that plague the realm of mental health. It is unfortunate. This unifying event allows us to set the record straight. It puts the spotlight on the successes and talents in the community.”

Ronaldo Richard is an artist. He has performed at the event in the past. “A Beacon in the Night is an event dear to my heart. My participation was an opportunity to share my own inner world with a most receptive and respectful audience. I felt surrounded by a large circle of friends. I had the opportunity to challenge myself and to share my passion. I strongly encourage people with a talent to show up at the auditions to get a taste for the event!”

The CHU Dumont Foundation is proud to support the fifth edition of A Beacon in the Night. Jacques B. LeBlanc is the President and CEO of the Foundation.

“It is clear to me that we need to talk more openly about mental health in our society. Sadly, there are still several taboos around this important issue. But I am convinced that initiatives like A Beacon in the Night can help to break these taboos. Thanks to this annual event and to the many artists who participate, we can talk positively about mental health and raise funds to improve patient care. I hope that many artists from the region are a part of the event this year!”

And the Spokesperson is Frank Williams

The organizers are also proud to announce that performer Frank Williams will be the spokesperson of the event. He is a well-known singer and musician and he was a finalist in the popular La Voix show. Frank is also a mental health nurse at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre in Moncton.

“This cause is very important to me," he said. "In my career in mental health, I have seen the extent to which the arts can play an important role in the recovery of a person. A Beacon in the Night is an inclusive event. It is a golden opportunity to get on the stage and present the result of one’s work. I strongly encourage those who want to share their talent and their passion to audition for the event on February 25th!”

Auditions for performers in song, music and dance will take place on February 25th, 2018, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Jeanne-de-Valois concert hall on the Université de Moncton campus.
